AUTOMATED LIBRARY

2004

This is a multifunctional building for a foreign students in Milan. Since the students exchange programs became very common in Europe, the demand for dedicated services and structures became more urgent.  The building has an automated library that occupies most of the volume and is specially designed to optimise the operation of book distributing machinery. The restaurants, cafes, computer rooms and study areas are among other functions hosted by the building. On the back of the library, a green space has been designed as a leisure area and a shelter from noisy streets of Milan. The façade of the building enters in dialogue with a modest architectural forms in surroundings. The double-façade solution of glazed elements ensure the low environmental impact of the structure.
